The Old Town of Jakarta: A Cultural Haven in the Heart of the City

The Old Town of Jakarta, also known as Batavia Lama (Oud Batavia), is a small area in Jakarta, Indonesia. This area was also dubbed as the "Gem of Asia" and "Queen of the East" in the 16th century by European sailors. Old Jakarta was considered as the trading center for the Asian continent due to its strategic location and abundant resources at that time.

This area is home to various well-preserved old buildings, each with its own unique history. This can provide education for anyone who visits it. This tourist destination offers a different experience as it is imbued with a European style atmosphere. The route to Old Town Jakarta is easily accessible. This location can be visited using private or public transportation. Visitors coming from Bekasi/Bogor/Tangerang can take the KRL and get off at Jakarta Kota Station. Then, walk approximately 200 meters towards Fatahillah Park, which is the center spot of Old Town. Old Town can be considered as a public tourist area, so there are no special regulations regarding its operational hours. Generally, Old Town Jakarta is open 24 hours every day from Monday to Sunday.

There are many museums that can be visited in Old Town. One of them is the Fatahillah Museum. The Fatahillah Museum, which has the official name of the Jakarta History Museum, is a museum located on Jalan Taman Fatahillah, West Jakarta. This building used to be the City Hall of Batavia. When visiting this museum, visitors will be presented with information about the historical journey of Jakarta. Among them are objects such as replicas of relics from the Tarumanegara an d Pajajaran eras, archaeological findings in Jakarta, antique furniture from the 17th to 19th centuries, etc.
